I have been so hesitant to post this topic, it has been sitting in my draft inbox for about two months now, but then I thought of the benefits of it, and how maybe it can help someone else. First and most of all the reason for my MIA status for the month of October was because I was going through some personal issues, I am doing better. Just like everything in life there are times when everything is going ok and then there are times where everything goes down the drain or sort of feels that way. I have taken the time I was away to reflect on everything like, Tasha (bellezakisses) said “we sometimes need time to reflect on life.” Well I did exactly that. I am doing ok now and some of the issues have been resolved some are in working process, but I am definitely back and working harder to keep my dream alive.
On to the topic for today depression, being depressed is not a great feeling, anyone who has ever been depresses at some point in their life can relate. There are many things that can cause depression from life situations, medications, or just mental illnesses. Everyone deals with it differently some people just deal with it, some seek professional help and some don’t deal with it at all and take their life which is a very sad option.
So what is depression, according to Wikipedia, “Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well-being.” When someone is depressed they tend to feel extremely sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worried, and may also feel worthless. Also when depressed you lose interest in things you love to do and may lose or gain appetite, often have trouble concentrating or making decisions. Many develop insomnia or the opposite excessive sleeping. How do I know all this, I have been there and by admitting it and talking about it I feel I can help someone else who is feeling this way.”
As I mentioned before depression is not a great feeling but it doesn't make you weak either. Many people don’t understand what it means to be depress and sometimes make things worse for the person feeling depressed. People my get depressed for a number of reasons example:
1. Illness or Health Problem (Self or Family Member)
2. Accident and or bad injury
3. Death of a loved one
4. Relationship problems or breakup
5. Financial or Job Problems
6. Natural disasters
As you all know by now, I have lost a few loved ones, one was taken away in a devastating way and the other passed away of illnesses. During these times I got really sad and depressed, though people rarely noticed but me and what I was feeling and my sisters who know me really well and are always there to listen up, plus they understood mainly because we were all going through the same pain and grief. I believe it really helps to talk about things and what you are feeling, when you puddle things up really doesn't help at all. That’s how I got through the depression phase talking about my feeling and letting things out, plus my faith, hope and strength to keep going also helped.
The scary part of being depress is when others don’t notice because you keep it inside and don’t show it that when your depression worsens because you feel alone and all the depression symptoms multiply making people think irrational. Another sad part of depression is when people or your family don’t understand and tell you to toughen up or suck it up trust me I've seen this, or they you that you should feel a certain way cause people might think your weak or crazy. The most famous one you can’t be depress or see a psychiatrist because that would go on your records and no one would hire you, really. The worst thing to do is ignore a person that is depressed that it’s not a good thing. Not understanding make a person feel even worst.
What to do listen, listen, listen and try to cheer them up help them think about all the positive things in their life, talk to them keep them company make them feel they do matter. Although I am a really private person I feel that sometimes our experiences can help someone else deal with any situation they are going through and I have been on both sides of the coin and I can already tell just by looking at a person that they are feeling down. My sisters and cousins can’t escape me when I sense they are down sometimes people need a little push to open up, all you have to ask is are you ok? If they say yes, then that is a sign that they don’t want to talk about it, but you can always tell them that you’re always there if they need to talk.
If you are feeling down talk to someone you trust and love it helps a lot. I am not a doctor I am just talking from human being to human being. I can’t tell you to be brave and strong and positive because when you feel depressed you really don’t feel like being all those things, but I can tell you that life is a gift and there is a purpose as to why things happen you may not see it now but all the pain we go though is always a step forward to becoming more stronger every tear we shed will multiply our smiles I guarantee that. Always think positive and think about the people who love you because they are the ones that will feel your pain if your gone. Suicide is not an option.
Please not this is my opinion and thought expressed through personal experiences, you're reading this by choice, I am not a doctor and if you’re feeling severely depresses you should seek medical attention.
